What Does it Take to be a Successful Sales Representative?

When you think of a Sales Representative what personality traits spring to mind? Loud, confident, outgoing? Does this necessarily mean that they will be successful? Does it mean they are good at their job? No. Although a certain level of confidence is crucial in any sales role, it is not the be all end all. Many sales representatives are not outgoing at first, it takes training and practice in the field to become successful in sales.
Sales involve a lot more than a likable personality, although possessing this is definitely a head start above a colleague that isn’t so outgoing.
However, this does not make you a better sales person in the long run. Anyone who is willing to spend time studying the sales techniques, and becomes persistent in learning the skills will become an outgoing salesman, giving you no superiority over him what so ever.
There are many factors that can suggest why a sales representative is good at their job. They could have excellent knowledge of the product, a positive attitude and the ability to ask necessary questions or the ability to close a consumer or client.
Take all of the positive attributes you can think of for a sales representative, this still is not enough to guarantee whether an individual will be successful in sales or not.
As I read in the article (included below), the most important and effective attribute is the individuals own expectations of himself, his own self value. This has a huge impact on the success of anybody in any career. But if you are facing the public, if you are trying to sell a product, you need to be good at selling yourself. You need to believe you have the ability to do it.

National Business Awards Show Positive Signs for the Sales Industry

The National Business Awards recently carried out research regarding business growth within the UK. The research has concluded that businesses within the Media, Marketing and Sales industries are feeling more optimistic when compared to last year about the potential growth of their business.

A report known as ‘Business without barriers report’ also had positive feedback when surveying over 500 Business Decision Makers within the same industries all over the country. One in four of the businesses who took part in the survey feel that their main set backs are a lack of investment along with a lack of new ideas and innovation. UK businesses believe that the main factors affecting growth n their business is due to retention, development and talent attraction.

 Around 1/3 of Media, Marketing and Sales professionals are seeing a growth within international export. This is higher than other businesses in different sectors. The research also highlights that 92% of businesses within the same industries believe that the growth of UK businesses will rely hugely on international trading.
